I thought it was bad enough trying to find my top 15 a while back but top 3 albums; Hey. I decided to do it by way of what albums do I keep going back to and when I do I have to sit down and LISTEN. So here goes and nothing to do with you playing a track last week. Joni Mitchell’s Hejira, America’s eponymous album (their first) and Chasing the Monsoon’s No Ordinary World. Blue is often rated as Joni’s best but I reckon Hejira is far better; so complicated, the words are just amazing. Somebody’s top 15 recently had her doing a track (Coyote) with The Band which I later found on You tube. It is stunning. The first 3 albums by America I thought were wonderful but I felt the later ones became too middle of the road with poor lyrics. I even gave my later vinyl’s to Nigel Harris. And Chasing the Monsoon, what can you say other than Karnataka with icing. I woke this morning with the stark realisation I hadn’t included The Cure Disintegration. So if only because hasn’t the test of time like the others I shall have to remove Chasing the Monsoon and put The Cure in its place if I’m allowed. I promise I won’t change it again!
